Lyrics

Shaking Hands With Friends
WE Pierce IV
(from the album “Sagittarius Passing Through”)

Well, look whose come to greet me there’s a line a mile long
I see all my friends a cheering even breaking into song
Long gone family smiling, they’re all here to wish me well
Yes, I’m shaking hands with friends as I join them all in hell

Ain’t no time to worry. Ain’t no time to get down
Ain’t a damn thing to say except hello friend when you’re hellbound

Earthly saints among us who we knew when left behind
Priests and scouts, yell and shout,
Thank God, there’s lots of time
And in the crowd, sworn enemies turn the other cheek at last
What’s the use to let hate loose when no end means that now is past

All may be lost, but more are all around
Still short of the grace to ever say that ‘I am found’
Let the pious find pleasure way up there among the clouds
Leave us to find comfort in the size of the sinners crowd

We’re Not From Here
WE Pierce IV
(from the album ‘Sagittarius Passing Through”)

We’re not from here and can’t turn back
We’ve no idea what went off track
Intending peace, we ripped apart
We’re more unsure than at the start

Sagittarian stars come raining down
We wonder why the sky confounds
Our own dark matter’s in control
We gained the world and lost our soul

Everybody knows it’s just that way
Everybody knows just what to say
Good and bad, the truth be told
The difference lies in what’s been sold

Ecliptic angles change the sun
The poles don’t change for anyone
We’ve no idea what went off track
We’re not from here and can’t go back

What In The World?
WE Pierce IV
(from the album ‘Sagittarius Passing Through”)

What in the world … would I be without your love?
Where would I go … when the sky falls from above?
How would I know… there’s a God to watch over me?
Why would I smile … when there’s so much misery?

Before you came
Cinder dark
I lost faith
I lost heart
Before you smiled
Despair seeped in
Stained my soul
Guilt-ridden … Corroded my mind

Then you came
Brought the sun
Hope infused
Me, sanguine?
How surreal
No shock nor riot
No tirades
Just peace and quiet…just you and I

How can I … explain just what you mean
Where do I … begin to explain just what I’ve seen
Where would I go … when the sky falls from above?
How would I know… there’s a God to watch over me?
Why would I smile … when there’s so much misery?

A Matter of Inspiration (Ode through Beth Hart)
WE Pierce IV

I remember the name from long ago and far away
Never known, except for a whispered word
“Don’t Explain,” she sings, yet I feel obliged:
Highs and lows, we’re all better now

Two as one inspires us to want to do more
In that time, we’ve found emotion from cold embers
Just never reached deep enough into the ashen gray
For the dying glow of a common creative passion

The mutual inspiration that exploded once upon a time
Like a Beth Hart shout, the only artist to connect us
To spark our thoughts about these arts
Fireworks once bright and loud, then gone.

Left only in our memories and unspent words
Once we ignited a creative conflagration
And burned down the house along the way
How about a controlled burn, light without destruction?

Better than an endless search for kindling and embers
I nibble away at the edges of my music and mind
Hoping that you found your voice many years ago
Beth returned by digging deeper and climbed higher
You always found creative routes to the heart of a matter
